I'd like to see your message posts support (at least) Rich Text Format, which permits a selection of fonts, plus colored, bolded, italicized, and underscored characters.

You can do that now. Click on the link in the left menu called "Formatting" and you'll see instructions on how do to that and more.

Thank you, Leslie. All we could ask for now would be a tool bar with one-button shortcuts (at least, to the simpler formatting features)...
