How about setting the posting board so that when a new message is posted to a thread that thread moves to the top of the page. I think that would keep more threads "alive" thru ought the day I think the earlier day threads just tend to die as they move down the page, whether they are "hot" or not.

This was considered, but the overwhelming response was towards keepting the newest thread at the top.
