What do you think of the idea of requiring recipients of unemployment benefits (beyond a perdetermined date, like say- the old deadline) to agree to reimburse the taxpayers when they secure employment?
With the recent debate & outrage over extending unemployment benefits in these difficult economic times, what can we do to better balance the hardships of the unemployed with fairness to the overburdened American taxpayer while giving deadbeats an incentive to start looking for work in earnest much sooner than 6 weeks or so before they are set to be kicked of the public dole?

Put the IRS & state agencies to good use by requiring these people to forfeit future income tax returns, payroll deductions and pay increased taxes on property and any transactions from which they make a profit until they have paid back what they received.

Many states including Georgia have enacted legislation that would require Medicaid recipients who receive long term care to reimburse the taxpayers if their estates have a net value of at least $25,000 at the time of their deaths. Many people argue that this is unfair because heirs would be denied their inhereitance. There are cries that senior citizens would have to choose between leaving a home to their offspring and prolonging their lives.

If we can require Seniors who sacrificed & paid their dues during the Depression, two World Wars, Vietnam & Korea to give up the fruit of their life's work for treatment so they can stay above ground a little longer, why can't we demand the same of a 25 year old who has benefitted all of his/hr life from growing up in the most affluent society on earth?

Let's put it this way: What would you say if you just got another job (lower paying than your last one, of course)and was trying to catch up on everything that you owed on (house, car, school loans, and doctor bills) and Mr. government Man knocked at the door wanting his toll for helping you out. REMEMBER that you may have been one of those people that has worked for MANY years, paying into the retirement and unemployment funds of your company, then you got CANNED. NOW what would you say to that???

whats fair to taxpayers.. is to take back our gov. from the globalists.. close the fed reserve once and for all.. stop the owing more in interest than we can pay back.. tearany is what it is.. financial slavery.. ok.. stop voting for change that is not defined.. stop voting for someone just cos they got the advertising dollar of the european bankers.. bring back work from china.. stop the illegal aliens from having fake ids and such and collecting food stamps and cash aid when they are not even legal.. if you have a child here.. they are not american. if the parents are not.. there are I am currently unemployed and what they give me in benefits doesn't equal to what they took out in taxes. So the way I look at it is that they are giving me some of my money back.

Slash taxes, slash regulations, and get out of the way...we will rise again.

K im not american so never looked into nafta from your point of view but from a western canadian point of view it seems to benifit the states for example the states are allowed to take our water for free some lakes in my province are down over 20 feet of water due to it and yet we arent allowed to charge 1 cent for it lol not trying to argue just want to know how it effects you

unempolyment benifits came out of the great depression as a way to
A. help the employed survive the poor decisions of corporate boards and wall street
B. to keep the cash flow going through the ecomony, when people stop buying goods and services companies cut back to keep "profit margins" up and what goes?? The worker = people = consumer = the one buying the goods and services to begin with.......




even then it took a world war to pull America out the depression. The ultimate demostration of a ecomony based on consumerism.....

I'm for capitalism and free enterprise but greed does need to be kept in check as by its very nature it unable to do so by itself as demostrated by all the Mandoffs of wall street, along with the IAG exec types and those "creative" mortage lenders and the rest that get ridiculous "bonuses" for making poor decisions based on short sighted quarter profits mentality.............

In regards to Unemployment benefits;
Here in Florida, employer's pay into Florida's unemployment-compensation trust fund. Since benefits are being extended(by congress) this fund is now broke and the trust fund is having to borrow money which will then be paid by employers at a higher rate in order to build up the fund. So expect higher prices on goods since this cost is carried on to the consumer.

and is it fair that banks get a big load of money from the state (read: the taxpayer) to pay off the consequences of simple stupid greed only to pay premiums to their managers just some months later?
What system are living in "on the other side of the big pond"...
